A Bet is a Bet is a Bet...Time to Pay Up!

Now that the dust (and my kidney issue) has settled from the race in France, I have some debts to pay up!

First off, in the contest to predict my total miles run in Brive, Ric Munoz from Van Nuys, CA was the big winner having guessed the lowest total of anyone (which I obviously didn't even come close to with my lame 13-hour, 91 mile effort). Ric won the special prize from the race, which I can't reveal here due to possible legal ramifications, but trust me when I say it's a great prize!

In other 'Fallout from Dan's Crappy Run' news, I also lost my bet with teammate Jamie Donaldson, and she showed no mercy in what I have to do to pay it off:
As this grainy iPhone photo of my recent dress rehearsal begins to indicate, I have to wear a skirt during the Mohican 100 miler in a couple weeks. The good news is, it's surprisingly comfortable! The bad news will depend heavily on how the "locals" react to the sight of me running by out there in the woods of Ohio. I'm optimistic though!

In terms of the actual race, I'm wise enough to know I need to take it a little easy on my body after what I went through at the World Championships. Having seen first-hand what happened to teammate Jill Perry in France after she tried to come back a little too soon from her bout with rhabdo after the Umstead 100, I know I need to dial things back a bit and just enjoy the trails of the Mohican course. I did the same thing at the Viaduct 100 last summer when I was first coming back from a long lay-off, and quite frankly I really enjoyed myself out there...it was possibly the most fun I've had in any 100 miler. There's a world of difference between running a 16-hour 100 miler and a 19-hour 100 miler (hint: 19-hour run involves a lot less pain!), and I'm definitely heading into Mohican with a 19-hour mentality. ...I just hope everyone who sees me in that skirt has a positive and kind mentality themselves!

I think you forgot to mention that is it a little girl's XL running skirt! This may be more of a reward--you are enjoying this way too much!

I think it really compliments your eyes.

Your next bet should involve painting your upper half Colts blue--with a big, white #18--and running the length of the mall.

Staci - I posted a blurry/dark photo to save you some pain. Just keep the kids away from the screen and there won't be any nightmares tonight.

Jamie - You had to go there, eh? I guess now that the secret is out, I might as well try to pick up the 'Hello Kitty' company as a sponsor.

Jenny - Thanks for the reminder on the vast number of embarrassing bets I've made (and mostly lost) over the past few years. I still can't figured out how I've avoided paying for a half-dozen of your "friendly" Colts bets during their recent domination of the Patriots. I have a feeling it'll all come crashing down on me this season...

You just look so pretty in your outfit!

Thanks for the update, Dan. I can hardly wait to see the prize -- I'm sure it will be very special.

You look great in the skirt. I predict you will be the hit of the Mohican party! Best of luck there and don't forget to follow your own advice to take it easy.

Ok, I can't take this any longer. Dan was really confused while he was walking circles in Brive and told me I won the bet, but I really didn't. So, now he thinks he still needs to pay up. I think we all saw enough. Just posting this pic proves that you would girl up and run in it. But, please don't! Save the good people of Mohican! Now take that skirt back to Target so some little girl can enjoy it too!

I don't know, I think we need to put this to a vote. I wouldn't want to cheat the (very few) readers of this blog by not giving them a Race Report full of pink nightmare photos after the race!

Shoot. I hope you wear the skirt, Dan. I am not running the Mo 100 this year, but will be there crewing my friend. If you are in the skirt I will spot you!
I have also signed up for the WV Trilogy which I See you are also running.

If you have questions about the Mo 100, feel free to ask me. I know this course very well.

For the love of humanity, man, leave the skirt-wearing for private occasions and don't force the rest of us Mohican runners to witness such, such, such...(speechless)

I have to vote with Brad. It's not like the poor people at the Mohican also lost a bet and thus should have this inflicted upon them. Though I will say it was awesome when Keifer Sutherland went on late night (Letterman) in the world's most hideous dress, because he lost a bet.

OK, OK, it seems I've been pardoned by the Governor. Thank you to Jamie and everyone else for letting me off the hook on this one!

I'm a little sad you won't be running in it, but that way it'll be cleaner for when you wear it to my birthday roof deck party!

Maybe after enough "liquid encouragement" we can get Doug to try it on. I'll be sure to bring it along, just in case!

A collective sigh of relief..."ahhh"

Hmmmmm, pretty sure that race recap would have been quite amusing, just the same probably better off this way :)

The prize arrived safely on Friday, Dan – thank you! I wanted to take it with me to the Nanny Goat 100-miler I ran this past weekend -- in Riverside, CA -- but I didn’t want to risk getting it dirty (it was a dusty course).

But I rubbed the prize for good luck before I left home and, voila, the 27:29 I nailed was a PR by over THREE HOURS – 100 laps of a one-mile loop course in 90-degree heat on Saturday and Sunday made it all the more rewarding.

Thanks most of all for being such a constant source of inspiration to all who know you and are fortunate enough to follow your brilliant career!
